PRODUCT SAFETY, HANDLING
& SILICA DUST WARNING
IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ BEFORE USE
Intended Use
Our porcelain, clay, ceramic raw materials, powders, slips and related products are supplied for artistic, ceramic, pottery, craft and other intended applications only. Please handle all materials responsibly and follow appropriate safety precautions when using them.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, raw, unfired and unprocessed materials are not suitable for food or drink use.
Silica Dust & Health Risks
Raw porcelain, clay and other ceramic materials may contain silica, including crystalline silica. When these materials are dry and are cut, sanded, ground, drilled, crushed or otherwise processed, they may release respirable crystalline silica (RCS) dust into the air.
Inhaling respirable crystalline silica dust can cause serious and potentially irreversible health effects, including silicosis, other respiratory diseases and lung cancer.
Exposure should be avoided or minimised wherever reasonably practicable. Fine dust may remain airborne or settle on surfaces, creating a risk of inhalation during handling and cleanup.
Safe Handling & Dust Control
To help reduce the risk of exposure to silica dust:
Avoid generating airborne dust wherever reasonably practicable.
Do not dry-sand, dry-grind or dry-cut materials containing silica. Use wet methods or other appropriate dust-control measures wherever possible.
Do not use compressed air to clean dust from clothing, equipment or surfaces.
Avoid dry sweeping. Use suitable dust-control and cleanup methods designed to minimise airborne dust.
Use appropriate respiratory protective equipment and other personal protective equipment where required. Respiratory protection should be suitable for the task and used in accordance with relevant safety guidance.
Keep dry powders and dusty materials away from children, pets and people not involved in the work.
Wash your hands thoroughly after handling materials and before eating, drinking or smoking.
Follow all product-specific safety instructions and applicable workplace health and safety requirements.
If using these materials in a workplace, educational facility, studio or commercial environment, you are responsible for assessing and managing the risks associated with their use and complying with applicable health and safety laws and regulations.
Food Contact & Finished Ceramic Products
Unless expressly stated otherwise for a particular product, our raw porcelain, clay, ceramic materials, unfired products and other raw materials are not represented as food-safe, food-grade or suitable for direct food contact.
A material should not be assumed to be suitable for food contact simply because it may become suitable after firing, glazing or further processing. The suitability of a finished ceramic item for food or drink use depends on several factors, including the body composition, glaze materials, firing conditions and the properties of the finished surface.
You are responsible for determining whether your finished ceramic product is suitable for its intended use and for ensuring that it meets any applicable food-contact standards and requirements.
